2017 - inaugural show

The inaugural NOFLASH Video Show (“Bumblin’ Youngins”) occurred on April 8, 2017, at the Torrance Shipman Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. NOFLASH 2017 featured work entirely by undergraduates at Rutgers University, The College of New Jersey, Columbia University, New York University and Pratt Institute, with live music performances by AGA and Spowder. Around 50 people were in attendance. View photos of the 2017 event here.

2018 – second annual show

NOFLASH 2018 was warmly hosted by the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey with support from Thomas Sokolowski, Director, and Amanda Potter, Curator of Education. Out of 748 submissions from 20+ countries, 25 works were selected. There were over 150 people in attendance, including 9 of the 25 participating artists. There was a live musical performance by lightheadedView 2018 photos and the full program here.

We also co-hosted and curated a smaller event in 2018 with the Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences Honors Program Artists' Collective called "Time-Based Art from Rutgers & TCNJ," featuring a screening of various shorts and a Q&A.

2019 – third annual show

See the 2019 program here. See photos from 2019 here. NOFLASH 2019 featured 28 works from 11 countries, in three avant-garde short film programs – Corporeal Considerations, Autobios & Animations, and Pensive Portraiture – as well as a popup video art exhibition, and a reception with live music by Clark. Sponsored by the Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers Filmmaking Center, and Mason Gross Student Governing Association.

2020 – fourth annual show

The fourth annual NOFLASH Video Show was restructured as a livestream due to the pandemic, July 24-26, 2020. NOFLASH 2020 featured 48 total works from 17 countries. The full program can be viewed here. Admission was on a donate-what-you-can basis to The Okra Project and Black Lunch Table, for a total of $1,410.

Instead of a traditional Q&A, all screenings were followed by a DOCSTORM session, which are archived here. After each program, the audience and participating artists were linked to a Google Doc in which anyone could add freeform questions/feelings, hyperlinks, images/videos, etc in relation (or not) to what they just experienced. The artists could choose to interact with what was produced by the audience in the Doc, express what they were thinking about in their practice, or have casual conversations. While there were links to learn more about the artists, there was not a traditional moderator/curator presence. DOCSTORM sessions were active for 20 minutes each, but are now archived as documents of the communal digital viewing experience.
